City Modern is a unique residential development in Detroit's historic Brush Park neighborhood. Combining modern architecture, multiple residence types, and commercial spaces, City Modern creates a sustainable, mixed-use neighborhood in the heart of Detroit.
Given the scale of this catalytic new development, we conducted an extensive branding kick-off with representatives from Bedrock (the principal developer of City Modern), members of the community, and each of the five architecture firms involved in the project. Considering the historic and cultural significance of the Brush Park neighborhood, it was clear from the beginning that this project would require an especially thoughtful approach, one that respects the existing neighborhood while celebrating the modern architecture and urban lifestyle on offer in the new development.
Following this branding kick-off, we began by creating an extensive identity system, including naming conventions and logo development for each building typology, a series of corresponding icons, and a wide range of printed collateral. Showcasing the unique lifestyle and amenities of the development, the City Modern website includes the Design Configurator: allowing future residents to instantly customize and view their homes before buying. As work begins on the development, potential residents are able to visit the Sales Center; an experience designed not only to entice and inform buyers, but to promote City Modern as an important piece of Detroit's next chapter.
